Minimum requirements

• A National Diploma in Medical Orthotics and Prosthetics or equivalent qualification.
• Five years post-registration experience in Orthotics and Prosthetics.
• Registration as Orthotics and Prosthetics Practitioner with the Health Profession Council of South Africa.

Core functions

• Management of Orthotics & Prosthetics practical facility.
• Maintenance of Orthotics & Prosthetics equipment.
• Control of material and consumables.
• Organization and coordination.
• Liaison and communication.
• Support to academic staff.

Prosthetics-Is an allied health care medical proffessional or field that is concerned with design and fitting of the prosthesis or artificial limb to the missing part of the limb it may be due to trauma,congeniatal or

Orthotics -Is an allied health care medical profession or field that is concerned the deign ,development fitting and manufacturing of orthoses which are devices that support or correct musculoskeletal deformities or abnormalities of human body.

Prosthesis-Is an appliance which used to replace the missing part of the body/limb
Orthosis-This can be defined as an externally applied device used to control or support a body part.

Prefix "Ortho" means to strengten or correct while Sufix"tic" means systematic pursuit of

Prosthetist and Orthotist, may be some body may ask who are this?ok let be give you its scientific definitions,

Prosthetist provide care to patients with partial or total absence of limbs by designing,fabricating and fitting prosthesis or artificial limbs.the Prosthetist creates the design to fit the the individual's particular functional and cosmetics needs,select the appropriate materials and components makes all necessary casts ,measurements and modification,this will definetely include static and dynamic aligment,evaluates the fit and function of the prosthesis on the patient and teachs the patient how to care for it.

Orthotist provide care to patients with neuromuscular and musculoskeletal impairments tha contribute to functional limitation and disabilityby designing,fabricating and fitting orthoses or custom made orthosis.The orthotist is responsible for evaluating the patients functional and cosmetic needs,designing the orthosis and selecting approppriate components,aligning and educating patient an appropriate use.
